Known around the world for her amazing voice and dancing, Shakira is also an incredibly motivated and active philanthropist.

A Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, Shakira is one of their global representatives and was chosen based on involvement in global issues, her deep commitment to helping children, and her appeal to young people around the world.

At just 18 years of age, Shakira founded the Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation which she was honoured for at a United Nations ceremony in 2006. The foundation, which has now opened it's SIXTH school, currently provides education and nutrition to over six thousand impoverished children in Colombia and is expanding its work to other countries, including newly launched projects in Haiti and South Africa.

For me, Shakira is a true modern day inspiration and epitomises the expression "Be the change you want to see".

The painting showcased here, created for her birthday on February 2nd 2011, is my tribute to Shakira in recognition of her compassion and dedication towards making a difference in the world by giving back wherever and whenever she can.
