Pushing Up Daisies
by Regina Sabiston
I created "Pushing Up Daisies" a couple of years ago when I was unhappy with the way I had painted my background and that's when this idea popped into my head.
So many times in life we put things off. We procrastinate. We say we'll do it later when we retire or when we have more time. Too often our time runs out long before we thought it would and that's why I put this piece together.
I had so much fun cutting and pasting words and phrases onto the paper. I glued them on as I found them and ran out of space as you can see. Perhaps I could have organized them a bit better, but it was my first collage since elementary school and I was thoroughly surprised at how it brought back memories of the fun I used to have during art class in school. I enjoyed how freeing it was to just cut and paste and not worry about every detail as I do when I paint realism. I enjoyed how my painting had a message.
I liked it, but thought I could never display it as one of my pieces of artwork until today when I realized that here for "The Artist in You", it would be accepted. I know it's not a masterpiece, but it was just me being me, thinking of all the time I had lost trying to live up to other peoples expectations.
The message is simple. Time waits for no one. Enjoy everyday of your life. Live it to the fullest and make time to do the things you love to do. Why...because you deserve it. Life is a journey. Enjoy it!
