Seeing Red!

by Regina Sabiston

Cherries GaloreSeeing RED means different things to different people in different situations. My miniature painting of cherries, which I call "Cherries Galore" is my way of showing you how the color red can be used in a favorable way.

I started painting cherries because I love the color red, as a matter of fact, I love all the jewel tones and red is just one of them. I also love eating fresh fruits, especially fresh cherries. When I painted my first cherry painting I learned a lot about translucent colors and how difficult it can be to work with them. I also learned how great translucent colors can be when one uses layer upon layer as I have done in this painting. Translucent colors are what makes them look juicy and inviting.

My hope is that you will enjoy this painting of cherries and think positively about the color red and about this lovely fruit that comes in season once a year. I plan to share more cherry paintings with you, but for now I want you to close your eyes and think about the last time you ate fresh cherries and relive that special moment!
