Lacey

by Regina Sabiston

LaceyLacey, that's what they called her. She was a farm dog and was truly loved by her owners. All brushed and ready to pose...Lacey stood proudly in the fresh fallen snow. This photo captured her eyes best and so I choose my colors carefully before putting them on my palette and mixing them just so. I had beeen given several photos to choose from, but this one was special, just as special as Lacey was .

When I paint dogs I love to look into their wonderful eyes and then paint them first. To me that is the most important part of the painting. When I've captured their eyes, I think the rest will be easy, but that isn't always the case. I loved the colors of the shadows as I painted them. I loved the carefree brushstrokes of Lacey's fur. I loved the blue sky behind her and sparkle in her eye. Suddenly Lacey appeared and I knew I was done!
