Experiment!
by Regina Sabiston
I like to experiment with mixed-media, too. For the first few years, just getting to know one or two mediums well was enough for me, but then I realized there was so much more out there for me to experiment with and have fun. I decided to read more books and learn more about this exciting mixed-media. It includes almost everything you can think of except the kitchen sink.
As a child I loved cutting and pasting so I had to find a way to include this in my art. I first learned that acrylic gel medium was art glue. You can use matte or glossy it doesn't matter although there are many other purposes for gel. Tissue paper is the fine paper I glued onto my canvas, but first I coated the tissue paper (both sides) with acrylic gel medium.
It became almost like a thin sheet of acrylic once dry. When I glued the coated tissue paper on my canvas I made shapes like little craters on the canvas and then later I painted the craters using a limited palette of paint.
I do hope I am not boring you with my "How to" information. I'm hoping that art buyers are as curious as artists are as to know how I was able to create this three-dimensional painting. Simple and yet effective. I hope you like it.
