Chaz

by Regina Sabiston

ChazChaz is SPECIAL! He's my son's dog and now part of the family. He's a Boxer, without papers, born with an enlarged oesophagas which makes him more prone to getting penumonia (poor doggy). I remember the day my son brought him home for the first time. He wanted to surprise us and hoped we wouldn't be upset that he had decided to get a dog even though we had warned him that a pet was a big responsibility. I remember thinking he was the cutest little puppy I had ever seen with his velvet ears and wrinkles. His profile is one of his best features and I've tried to capture it and his curious nature. That nose can smell a doggy bone burried deep in the snow. Yes Chaz loves the great outdoors and begs to be taken for walks, but that's another story, I'll share with you at a later date.

Chaz will often sit on the deck outside in the winter absorbing all the sites and sounds. He enjoys the freedom at the farm and we enjoy him. I painted this 5 by 7 inch on a canvas sheet in acrylic this past December. I thought it would make a good card to share with friends and family. Once done, I scanned it and saved it to a file for later use. Next I used acrylic gel matte medium to glue the painting to a small piece of 1/4 inch MDF using a brayer to make sure to get rid of any air bubbles. I let it dry overnight, then varnished it twice with a matte varnish. I had it professionally framed and happily gave it to my son as one of his Christmas gifts. I know this little miniature will hold a special place in his heart for a long time, just like Chaz will.

Art is wonderful isn't it? You can give someone something they will treasure, something personal, something that comes from the heart.
