The Art Students League of New Yorkcelebrates its talented emerging artists in the annual “Red Dot Exhibition” with an Opening Reception Tuesday June 11, 2013 at the school’s Phyllis H. Mason Gallery. A public reception will follow on Tuesday, June 11 at the Gallery from 6–8 pm.

League executive director Ira Goldberg says "The 'Red Dot Exhibition,' representing the work judged as best of the annual class exhibitions, shines with exceptional creativity, innovation and intelligence.  We’re very proud of the achievement of all the participants."

This exhibition showcases the work of artists from over a dozen nations.

Works for the “Red Dot Exhibition” are selected throughout the year during the League’s weekly Student Concours. Traditionally, several pieces in the “Red Dot Exhibition” are purchased for the League's Permanent Collection, which is made up of nearly 2,000 works by artists including Georgia O'Keeffe, Winslow Homer, John Sloan, Vaclav Vytlacil, Burgoyne Diller, Dorothy Dehner, and Will Barnet.

Highlights from this year’s “Red Dot Exhibition” include:

---Aya Ogassawara’s skillful, meticulous painting, created in an almost Flemish-inspired style, offering a different approach to the nude

---Maria Sultan’s mixed-media work (pastel, watercolor, gouache), created in the tradition of de Kooning

---Yasuki Okamoto’s surreal painting, combining fantastic illustrations and realistic elements in an original and humorous way
